STORMDIVERS Has Been Put on Ice; Housemarque's "Most Ambitious Title" Yet Will Be Revealed in 2020
Although Housemarque announced that they would no longer make "arcade" games a good while ago, the Finnish developer has now decided to take things to the next level — as the studio will no longer support Stormdivers to focus solely on its first big-budget project.
Unfortunately, we're still waiting for any concrete details on the title — but at least now we have an official confirmation that it hasn't been cancelled — unlike all the other new projects developed at Housemarque.
"We are working on our biggest and most ambitious title yet and have amazing support from our yet-to-be announced partner," Housemarque CEO Ilari Kuittinen explained in a post on the producer's website. "Our team of almost 80 people is comprised of talented, smart and hard working individuals from all around the world, and it has been invigorating and inspiring to see how this game concept has turned into reality as more and more ideas have formed the basis of a truly incredible product. Despite not knowing if we would even get past the initial stages of pre-production, we have now spent almost three years working on this game, and now we are in full scale production and super excited to reveal more in the coming months."
Stormdivers is the first victim of Housemarque's decision to make the yet-to-be-announced video game its focal point. "So now we are focused on delivering our most ambitious and biggest game to date, putting every other project on hold, including the development of Stormdivers. It is great that the whole company can come together to deliver this game, which will define the next evolution of Housemarque. We are very humbled to have amazing support from our partner over the course of the past few years, and this support has continuously grown on a monthly basis," Kuittinen added.
As a reminder, Housemarque announced back in December 2018 that "arcade games" were dead and original projects like Dead Nation, Resogun and Alienation would no longer be developed at the award-winning studio — all in an effort to allow the Finns make the jump to the so-called "AAA" development.
Daring teams and solo operators who are brave enough to dive into the eye of the recurring nano storm are trying not only to survive the competition but also the island itself, with endless threats looming around every corner. Only the strongest will make it out alive, with riches and rewards the island has to offer.
Stormdivers is now available on Steam Early Access.
