Given that the next entry in the long-running King's Bounty series is scheduled for release in 2020 — for the first time coming not only to PC, but also Xbox One and PlayStation 4 — it's the right moment to learn more about 1C Entertainment's title.
The company has released the first developer diary for King's Bounty II, mostly focusing on a major change that will definitely be the subject of heated discussions among fans — the new over-the-shoulder camera.
Unlike the previous instalments, King's Bounty II won't feature only one camera angle. While turn-based strategy game usually give the player only one way to look at the battlefield — via the isometric-esque point of view — the sequel will change the status quo, introducing a camera that's more similar to modern RPGs than the old King's Bounty games.
Fortunately, King's Bounty II still shares some similarities with Heroes of Might & Magic and Age of Wonders, so the most important parts of the game will still use the standard camera angle for turn-based strategies.
According to 1C Entertainment, the over-the-shoulder camera will help you immerse yourself in the King's Bounty II world, and also make exploring and talking to NPCs a whole lot more rewarding and interesting.
While the video is currently only available in Russian, it's worth a look, featuring snippets of new footage:
Offering a fresh take on the acclaimed fantasy series, King’s Bounty 2 expands upon its tactical turn-based battles to offer players a truly immersive RPG experience that adds weight to their every decision, whether leading an army into battle against unliving horrors, or building relations with local townsfolk. Experience a rich world that blends realism and fantasy, filled with compelling stories, memorable characters and moral choices aplenty!
King's Bounty 2 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via Steam) in 2020.
