The Nintendo Switch Version of THE OUTER WORLDS Has Been Delayed Due to the Coronavirus Outbreak

The Wuhan coronavirus outbreak will officially affect the Nintendo Switch port of Obsidian Entertainment's The Outer Worlds, as publisher Private Division has pushed back its release date to make sure that the team at Virtuos stays safe.

"We’re delaying The Outer Worlds on Nintendo Switch due to the coronavirus impacting the Virtuos team working on the port, to provide them enough time to finish development," Private Division recently announced on Twitter.

The publisher later added: "To clarify, the team at Virtuos is ok, but their office has remained closed during this time. We're working with the team to determine an updated development timeline, and will share more regarding a new launch date shortly."

The fact that the publisher prioritises the studio's safety is great news — and the delay will also have a positive effect on the Switch edition of the RPG, as the port's physical version will be released on cartridge.

Originally, The Outer Worlds on Switch was supposed to feature only a digital download code. Taking into account that its install size is 38.69 GB on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it's definitely a most welcome change. Virtuos' Nintendo Switch port of The Outer Worlds will be priced at $59.99 on the eShop and at retail.

The Outer Worlds is a new single-player first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division. Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

The Outer Worlds is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via the Epic Games Store); coming to Nintendo Switch at a later date.
