Chinese Tech Behemoth Tencent Acquires Minority Stake in Yager, Makers of SPEC OPS: THE LINE

Chinese tech behemoth Tencent has acquired a minority stake in Yager Development, the Berlin-based developer responsible for Dreadnought, The Cycle, and one of the most overlooked titles in video game history, Spec Ops: The Line.

"Tencent is not only the world's leading games company but also a prolific investor with a stellar track record," Yager CEO Timo Ulmann said in a press release. "We're humbled to join the line-up of Tencent partners which reads like a games industry Who's Who."

"We're confident that this will greatly enhance the scope of our business, not just by getting access to Tencent's network and resources but by tapping the vast industry know-how Tencent possesses," Ulmann concluded.

After years of working on original IPs, Yager recently tried to find success in the FPS genre with The Cycle, a competitive quest shooter — exclusive to the Epic Games Store — now available in free early access on PC.

At the time of this writing, Yager had not revealed any concrete details on the size of Tencent's investment.
