Stefano Sollima’s CALL OF DUTY Movie Is Reportedly No Longer Moving Forward at Activision

While almost every other video game publisher is trying to turn their most lucrative series into successful movies, Activision Blizzard has seemingly lost interest in producing a big-budget adaptation of the company's biggest IP, Call of Duty.
During a recent interview with BadTaste.it, Sicario: Day of the Soldado Director Stefano Sollima revealed that his take on Call of Duty is not moving forward at Activision, as the video game movie is no longer the company's priority.
In 2017, Activision Blizzard Co-President Stacey Sher confirmed that the movies based on Call of Duty would be inspired by the so-called Marvel formula. “We have plotted out many years," she told The Guardian. "We put together this group of writers to talk about where we were going. There’ll be a film that feels more like Black Ops, the story behind the story. The Modern Warfare series looks at what it’s like to fight a war with the eyes of the world on you. And then maybe something that is more of a hybrid, where you are looking at private, covert operations, while a public operation is going on."
Call of Duty's script was co-written by Kieran Fitzgerald (Snowden) and Joe Robert Cole (Black Panther).
The film was expected to begin shooting in 2019 and be ready for a release in 2020-2021. Although Call of Duty has been put on hold, Sollima is still busy working on Without Remorse, based on Tom Clancy's novel.
Sollima's Call of Duty is seemingly not happening anytime soon, but Activision has already announced that the next major entry in the best-selling game series will be released in 2020, possibly developed by Treyarch.
