UNCHARTED Star Tom Holland Confirms That the Movie Will Be a Prequel to Naughty Dog's Games

Uncharted will start shooting this March, so it's obvious that new details on the Ruben Fleischer-helmed video game adaptation are being revealed on a daily basis — this time thanks to Tom Holland, the main star of the long-delayed film.

While Holland is focusing on promoting Onward, he recently answered IGN's questions about Uncharted.

According to Holland, Uncharted will serve as a prequel to Naughty Dog's award-winning game quadrology, putting the spotlight on Nathan Drake's youth and the origin of his friendship with Victor "Sully" Sullivan, who will be portrayed on the big screen by Mark Wahlberg (The Departed, Deepwater Horizon).

Furthermore, Holland believes that the movie will be the first great video game adaptation, as the Uncharted screenplay — penned by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Rafe Judkins, with the help of Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (Iron Man, Transformers: The Last Knight) — apparently is "one of the best scripts" Holland has ever read.

Given that Sonic the Hedgehog is the first video game movie that earned a near-perfect "A" CinemaScore grade, it would be nice to see 2021's films based on video games follow in the blue speedster's footsteps.
