XCOM Meets GEARS OF WAR in Over 30 Minutes of Action-Packed GEARS TACTICS Gameplay Footage

Following the sales success of last year's Gears 5, Microsoft is looking to strike while the iron is hot, as a brand-new entry in the long-running series will hit stores next month — but it won't be another third-person cover shooter.
Created at Splash Damage — the award-winning makers of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Brink — and The Coalition, Gears Tactics promises to bring something completely fresh to the action-packed series.
At its core, Gears Tactics is a fast-paced, turn-based strategy game set 12 years before the events of the original Gears of War. As Gabe Diaz, the player will be recruiting, developing and commanding their own squads on a mission to "hunt down the relentless and powerful leader of the Locust army: Ukkon."
Those familiar with the X-COM series should know exactly what to expect from Gears Tactics, but the upcoming title reportedly does a good job capturing the essence of Gears of War, so even fans of the Cliff Bleszinski–imagined franchise who don't play strategy games on a daily basis should keep an eye on Tactics.
Given that both Halo Wars games were quite interesting projects, chances are that yet another Microsoft effort to make a strategy game set in one of its biggest universes will be worth players' time and money.
