Video Game World Comes to Life in First FREE GUY Clip; Ryan Reynolds' New Comedy Debuts in December

Yesterday, Disney decided to push back some of its upcoming movie releases — including Indiana Jones 5, Mulan, Black Widow, and even Jungle Cruise — and Ryan Reynolds' new comedy Free Guy will now hit theaters on December 11, 2020. The movie was originally supposed to make its big debut on the 3rd of July.

In Free Guy, Reynolds plays an NPC who miraculously becomes aware that he's a background player in an open-world video game; heavily inspired by Fortnite and Grand Theft Auto V. Following that profound realisation, the character decides to rewrite the game's plot and become the main hero of his own story.

In addition to Reynolds, Jodie Comer (The Last Duel), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Utkarsh Ambudkar (Ride Along 2), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) will all play a role in the action comedy.

As a reminder, the award-winning Deadpool 2 actor is also developing a Dragon’s Lair movie for Netflix.

Directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Real Steel), Free Guy will have the chance to be yet another successful video game movie (not based directly on any existing IP) after two Jumanji movies with The Rock.

Reynolds has released the first clip for Free Guy, so waste no time and be sure to check it out down below:

In Twentieth Century Fox’s epic adventure-comedy “Free Guy,” a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way… before it is too late.

Free Guy is coming to theaters on December 11, 2020.
