Frogwares' New Game Is Open-World Detective Title as THE SINKING CITY Was

It's been almost a year since The Sinking City's original debut, so it's a good moment to take a look back Frogwares' ambitious Lovecraft-inspired production and the lessons the studio learned from its troubled development process. The Sinking City may have been the developer's most popular title to date, but it's worth remembering that the Kyiv-based company inarguably made its name with the Sherlock Holmes series.

In a recent interview with Wccftech, Frogwares Communication Manager Sergey Oganesyan revealed brand-new details not only on The Sinking City's overall sales performance, but also the two franchises' future.

"I can confirm we are working on something, but we are not ready to reveal what it is," Oganesyan explained. "What I can tell you is that fans best know us for our detective games, and this new game will fit the Frogwares profile - a story-focused detective adventure with minimum hand-holding. But is it going to be Sherlock, The Sinking City 2 or a new IP - that I, unfortunately, cannot say just yet."

According to the manager, The Sinking City has lived up to the Ukrainian game developer's sales expectations, as "the game was definitely a success for our studio. It is selling better than our previous Sherlock Holmes titles did during the same period of time and continues to do well." Unfortunately, we're still patiently waiting for any official sales figures for how well The Sinking City has actually sold.

The Sinking City is an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC, so those who try to avoid that storefront as much as possible should be more than happy to hear that the long-awaited project will be coming to Steam (and maybe even GOG) at some point this year. "This deal with Epic Games allowed our studio to continue doing what we love to do - niche detective games but also prepare for the future. Will we see a sales boost for The Sinking City on Steam? It's up to the players to decide," Oganesyan said.

Considering that both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are launching this holiday season, it's safe to say that Frogwares' next big thing will be a cross-gen (or maybe even a full-blown next-gen) offering.

In the 1920s, on the East Coast of the United States, the half-submerged city of Oakmont is gripped by supernatural forces. You're a private investigator, uncovering the truth of what has possessed the city and corrupted the minds of its inhabitants... and yours.

The Sinking City is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC (via the Epic Games Store); coming to Steam and GOG in 2020.
