2005's Classic RESIDENT EVIL 4 Is Reportedly Getting Remake Treatment; Might Debut in 2022
The acclaimed remake of 1999's Resident Evil 3 was unleashed upon the world only nine days ago, but it sounds like Capcom is not wasting time, reportedly already developing a reimagining of the groundbreaking Resident Evil 4. Apparently, the title is being made at former PlatinumGames head Tatsuya Minami's M-Two company, with Capcom's in-house studios likely helping the core team bring the production to (after)life.
According to VGC, Resident Evil 8 — possibly titled Resident Evil: Village — is not the only project set in the Shinji Mikami–created universe that will be released by 2023, as "multiple development sources" have told the site that the Resident Evil 4 remake "has now entered full production" and might hit stores in 2022.
Quite surprisingly, Mikami — who left Capcom after the launch of the original Resident Evil 4 — has even been asked by the publisher to direct the new version of the beloved title, but he "officially declined an approach to lead the project himself" to seemingly focus solely on his brand-new IP, GhostWire: Tokyo.
Considering that Resident Evil 4 is not only the best-reviewed entry in its respective franchise, but also the highest-rated game in Capcom's history, creating a successful remake of the classic Resident Evil 3 sequel — which revolutionised its genre introducing the over-the-shoulder camera — will be quite an undertaking.
At the time of this writing, Capcom had not revealed any concrete details on the future of its biggest series.
Experience Jill Valentine’s encounter with the unrelenting Nemesis in this survival-horror classic remade from the ground up. It also includes Resident Evil Resistance, a new 1 vs 4 asymmetrical online multiplayer game set in the Resident Evil universe. Cooperate as one of four Survivors or as a twisted Mastermind attempting to stop them at every turn.
Resident Evil 3: Remake is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via Steam).
