SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Star James Marsden Believes Potential Sequel Should Be More Action-Packed
Although Sonic the Hedgehog featured its fair share of thrilling chase sequences, James Marsden — who played Sheriff Tom Wachowski in the original movie — believes that a potential sequel should be even more action-oriented. Considering that the award-winning actor is a huge fan of Sega's game series, the fact that he would also love to see even more classic Sonic characters in future movies shouldn't be too surprising.
"Well I think we'd do a lot more of the same, but we would probably hopefully throw even more set pieces in there and more action sequences," Marsden told Comic Book. "I think we'd hopefully introduce some new characters, some beloved characters from the video game. If you stayed through the credits, you saw a little introduction to Tails. Hoping we'd see Tails come in. You know, who knows? The good thing is, is that hopefully when we come back to earth after this thing and we're still making movies, that Paramount will really fire it up again, and we'll just have double the fun."
Even though Paramount Pictures has not revealed any details on a follow-up to the first movie yet, chances are that Sonic 2 is already in the works. It's worth noting that Sonic is not only the best-reviewed video game movie of all time, but also a best-selling one, recently hitting the $300 million mark at the global box office.
As a friendly reminder, the Jeff Fowler-directed Sonic the Hedgehog is now available on digital storefronts.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 may have not been officially announced yet, but it's safe to say that the original movie's director will return to helm the picture if the team at Paramount decides to greenlight it, as Fowler's first directorial effort is the first movie based on a video game franchise to earn a rare "A" CinemaScore.
Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog is now available on digital platforms; coming to Blu-ray and Ultra 4K HD on May 19.
