The secret is out, as first details on the long-rumoured Crysis Remastered have been revealed ahead of the title's official announcement — and what's even more surprising, the game is coming not only to PS4, XBO and PC, but also Nintendo Switch. You read it right, playing the classic on the go will finally be possible.

According to Electronic Arts, the all-new remastered edition of 2007's technological marvel "brings new graphic features, high-quality textures, and the CRYENGINE's native hardware- and API-agnostic ray tracing solution for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and – for the very first time – Nintendo Switch."

Considering that the current-gen version of Crysis Remastered will support ray-tracking, it's safe to say the the all-new title is also on the way to two next-gen machines — PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Although the upcoming Crysis production is not the long-awaited sequel to 2013's Crysis 3, it's good to know that EA has not abandoned the beloved brand yet, even if the idea of experiencing one of the most graphically challenging games ever made on Switch is not something we would have ever imagined.

UPDATE: Crytek has just officially announced Crysis Remastered. According to the developer, the title will be released this summer, focusing on the game's solo campaigns. The title will contain "high-quality textures and improved art assets, an HD texture pack, temporal anti-aliasing, SSDO, SVOGI, state-of-the-art depth fields, new light settings, motion blur, and parallax occlusion mapping, particle effects will also be added where applicable. Further additions such as volumetric fog and shafts of light, software-based ray tracing, and screen space reflections provide the game with a major visual upgrade."

The remaster is being developed at Saber Interactive, the studio responsible for the Nintendo Switch port of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt and World War Z. "We are excited to be working on the Crysis franchise again, and to bring all the Crysis fans a remaster worthy of their passion for the game," Crytek CEO Avni Yerli explained. "It’s an exciting opportunity to be able to bring Crysis back to PCs and current consoles – even Nintendo Switch! – so that a whole new generation of players can experience the thrill of a battle in the Nanosuit."

Quite interestingly, Electronic Arts — the series original publisher — is not mentioned even once in the press release, so chances are that Crytek will distribute the title without the American giant's help.
