HALO: REACH Creative Director Reveals Brand-New Details on His Original IP — DISINTEGRATION
There's no denying that the coronavirus pandemic has had a tremendous effect on the video game industry, forcing many developers to finish their productions remotely — and the creators of Disintegration are also trying to adapt to remote working. Although Washington-based V1 Interactive is hoping to release their long-awaited first-person shooter at some point this spring, there's a good chance the title will be delayed.
For those unfamiliar with Disintegration, it's a sci-fi shooter — featuring both solo and multiplayer modes — directed by Marcus Lehto, one of the creative masterminds behind Bungie's Halo trilogy and Halo: Reach.
"There’s no doubt that there will probably be delays for us," Lehto said a recent interview with VGC. "But we’re in a better place than many other games because we’re toward the end cycle and we’re really wrapping things up now. I feel like we’re in a fairly good spot and we have a lot of great support from our publisher and with our other third parties that we’re working with. That helps a lot."
"It’s troubling for me because I’ve called and talked to friends of mine at other studios and they’ve had layoffs and other issues as a result of this. It’s really affecting everyone in different ways and it’s not over. There’s probably a good month or two – or more – left. We really don’t know," he added.
Considering that Lehto's made a name for himself as a Halo concept artist, comparisons between that series and Disintegration are inevitable, but the director believes his game will offer a unique twist to the genre.
"There’s nothing in particular that I can think of that was an element from Halo," the creative director explained. "Having worked on Halo for almost 16 years I felt like I exhausted all of my Halo stuff that I wanted to do over the expanse of that time. With Disintegration there was an opportunity for me to express the aesthetics of what I love about characters, vehicles and the world. So my thumbprints are definitely there, but there’s nothing that translated directly from the Halo universe."
If you just can't wait to play Disintegration, be sure to take a closer look at the fast-approaching production's intense single-player campaign in almost 10 minutes of never-before-seen gameplay footage down below:
Disintegration is a new sci-fi first-person shooter set in the near future on Earth where the only hope for human survival is through Integration, a process developed to preserve human brains in robotic armatures. You play as Romer Shoal, a former Gravcycle pilot in command of a small Integrated resistance still grasping onto fading memories of their human selves. With the domineering Rayonne forces set on eliminating the final remnants of human society, it’s up to Romer and his crew of Outlaws to fight back and reboot humanity. Pilot a variety of armed Gravcycles and command your crew on the ground by leveraging a variety of unique unit abilities and mastery of your own personal arsenal to dominate the battle.
Disintegration is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via Steam) in 2020.
