Renowned DOOM: ETERNAL Composer Mick Gordon Has Seemingly Parted Ways With Bethesda
It looks like composer Mick Gordon won't be returning to work on any id Software-created video games, as the award-winning artist recently revealed that his Doom: Eternal OST could very well be his last Bethesda-produced soundtrack. Considering that many players believe his pulse-pounding score is Doom: Eternal's "secret sauce," the yet-to-be-confirmed split could have huge negative implications for the series' future.
The long-awaited debut of the Doom Eternal Collector's Edition — including the acclaimed shooter's official soundtrack — didn't quite go the way Bethesda was hoping. Although Gordon's original version of the OST is pretty much impeccable, the audio mixing on the Collector's Edition reportedly leaves a lot to be desired.
According to Twitter user Doominal Crossing: Eternal Horizons, the new mixing is more than just disappointing. "Mick Gordon is a far more talented audio engineer than me, it's not even close & that's what makes this especially frustrating," the passionate fan of his work said. "I expect much better from him. Again, the music itself is phenomenal, but this mix on the official soundtrack is frankly terrible."
However, Gordon also took to Twitter, explaining that he "didn't mix those and wouldn't have done that. You'll be able to spot the small handful of tracks I mixed (Meathook, Command and Control, etc...)."
Furthermore, the renowned artist said "[I] doubt we'll ever work together again" as a response to a fan question of Facebook. It's worth remembering that Gordon is also responsible for the soundtracks for 2016's Doom, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Prey and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, so his successor will definitely have some big shoes to fill if he's indeed parting ways with Bethesda.
