Although the acclaimed reimagining of 1998's Resident Evil 2 hit stores just last year, Italian game developer Invader Studios will bring their answer to Capcom's classic — titled Daymare: 1998 — to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on the 28th of April. The indie third-person horror made its PC debut back in September 2019.
Just like Resident Evil 2, Daymare's universe is infested with zombie-like creatures. As a member of a special security team tasked with investigating an industrial chemical accident, the player will have to find a way to survive in the doomed town. Quite interestingly, the main story is told from three different perspectives, focusing solely on the despaired actions of an elite soldier, a helicopter pilot, and a forest ranger.
According to publisher Destructive Creations, Daymare "recreates the atmosphere of the most beloved works from the end of the millennium and places a typical yet fresh story in the middle of it. The plot unfolds through the eyes of various characters, putting players in the shoes of different personalities that wil lguide them through their theories and doubts about the situation. Backtracking, managing ammo, collecting lore items, solving environmental puzzles and the overall difficulty will help players jump a couple decades back and get chilled to the bone in their first real daymare."
Although the recently released Resident Evil 3 has been well-received by fans, it's hard to argue with the fact that it's a relatively short adventure — and Daymare sounds like a reasonable alternative to that remake.
Without further ado, take a look at the action-packed console launch trailer for Daymare: 1998 down below:
DAYMARE: 1998 is a third-person survival horror game that recreates the mood of iconic titles from the '90s, with a fresh storyline. An incident that turns a small town into a deadly zone, three characters to play with and little time to find the truth, before its mutated citizens abruptly end your mission.
Daymare: 1998 is now available on PC (via Steam and GOG); coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 28, 2020.
