TAINTED GRAIL: CONQUEST Has Been Announced; RPG Is Coming to Steam Early Access Next Month
Polish developer and publisher Awaken Realms Digital has officially announced that Tainted Grail is hitting Steam Early Access and GOG on the 25th of June, allowing role-playing fans to explore the wonderful world of Arthurian legends. Although Tainted Grail is heavily inspired by various stories about King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table, and Camelot, the legendary hero is actually dead in the long-awaited game.
Without its great leader, chaos reigns, slowly consuming the mythical island of Avalon. To put an end to the spreading entropy, players will embark on a grim journey and ultimately decide the fate of this dying world.
At its core, the upcoming Tainted Grail is a narrative-driven open-world role-playing game. According to the Wrocław-based developer, players will often be faced with "impossible choices. Other times, the consequences of seemingly minor actions will haunt you in the least expected moments. In the end, your impact on Avalon is going to reverberate through deep, meaningful changes to the game world - entire towns will raise or fall, land will shatter, ancient powers will be restored, or broken forever."
During its Early Access phase, Tainted Grail will give backers — the RPG was the biggest Kickstarter project of 2018; with £4,940,030 pledged thus far — the chance to play a new game mode, Tainted Grail: Conquest.
"Tainted Grail: Conquest is our personal take on the roguelike genre," Game Director Kamil Krupiński explained. "We want the game to be playable “forever.” Every time you boot it up you’ll be presented with a different map layout but – at least at launch – with the same objective: kill the prince of the Fore-dwellers. Later on we’re planning to add ever-shifting, surprising objectives to every run."
