Ubisoft has revealed plenty of new details on the next major Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege expansion — officially titled Operation Steel Wave — as the critically acclaimed multiplayer shooter recently reached yet another milestone. According to the publisher, Rainbow Six Siege is now home to over 60 million players.
During the Steel Wave chapter, two never-before-seen Operators will make their debut in Rainbow Six Siege (in what's become a quarterly tradition), allowing players to join the fun as soldiers from Africa and Norway.
Although the new specialists — Håvard Haugland & Thandiwe “Melusi” Ndlovu – will be the content drop's main starts, it will also introduce a high-tech device capable of "slowing enemies and tagging gadgets."
When it comes to Haugland, his name is hard to pronounce — in Defender Maxim “Kapkan” Basud's opinion — but "he’s easy to recognise. We call him Ace. It’s interesting that a paramedic would eventually work with the UN, and fortunate for Kali that they crossed paths. His time with the Norwegian Armed Forces has honed his rescue skills. As an EMT, he projects a calm – if arrogant - confidence in even the most stressful situations. Whether he's gingerly making his way to a trapped avalanche victim or attending to a broken bone, Ace is capable of making those in his charge feel safe and secure."
Basud also strongly believes that the African Operator's focus on prevention through surveillance is "something The Program can benefit from. I don’t doubt her experience with drones, but have you seen Melusi track a poacher on foot? Even I would have trouble spotting her among the trees."
While we're going to learn a whole lot more about Steel Wave on Monday, check out its reveal trailer now:
The Siege is a brand-new style of gameplay embracing the reality of counter-terrorist operatives across the world: intense and asymmetrical close-quarters combat between attackers and defenders. As a defender, you will have the means to transform your environment into strongholds to prevent the attackers from breaching. As an attacker, you will have many planning options to face this challenge and defuse these situations.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via Steam, Origin, Uplay and the EGS); coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X at a later date.
