EA Reveals New Details on STAR WARS: SQUADRONS; TIE FIGHTER Successor Steps Into the Spotlight Soon

According to EA, Star Wars: Squadrons — previously known as Project Maverick — will be showcased during tomorrow's EA Play, but the company has already revealed plenty of new details on its next Star Wars title.

First of all, Star Wars: Squadrons is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on the 2nd of October and will be priced at $39,99. The game will also support several VR headsets, including PS VR and Oculus Rift S.

Furthermore, Star Wars: Squadrons is being developed at EA Motive, the Montreal-based studio responsible for the single-player campaign for Star Wars Battlefront II (which was also co-created by Criterion, DICE, and Lucasfilm). The Canadian team was also working on the promising Star Wars: Ragtag project — supervised by Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Creative Director Amy Hennig — after Visceral Games had closed its doors.

In Star Wars: Squadrons, players will take on the role of a starfighter pilot — either joining the New Republic or Imperial fleet — and engage in strategic 5v5 multiplayer space battles. Although the title will be focused mostly on action, it will feature a strategic layer, with gamers planning their next moves in the briefing room.

Fans of solo experiences should be happy to hear that Star Wars: Squadrons will also include a single-player campaign set after the aftermath of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. In the story mode, players will learn what has actually happened to the brave pilots following the destruction of the second Death Star.

"We created this game for every Star Wars fan who has ever dreamt about soaring across the galaxy in their favorite starfighter," Creative Director Ian Frazier explained. "Through the collaboration of the teams at Motive and Lucasfilm, we’ve been able to create a high-fidelity starfighter experience with an authentic storyline that invites Star Wars fans to explore never-before-seen corners of the galaxy in their own ship. We’re excited to show all this in action at EA Play Live this week."

As a friendly reminder, the EA Play event will begin tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. PT. While EA will share more information about Star Wars: Squadrons soon, take a look at its reveal trailer and first screenshots right now:
