Curious Imagination of Franz Kafka Comes to Life in First Gameplay Trailer for METAMORPHOSIS

Cracow-based publisher All in! Games has shared the first gameplay trailer for Metamorphosis, a brand-new action-adventure game inspired by Franz Kafka’s short story of the same name and his limitless imagination.

In Metamorphosis, players will take on the role of salesman Gregor Samsa. One day, the main protagonist discovers that he has been transformed into a teeny-tiny bug. In the wake of the rather unpleasant change, Samsa will embark on a dangerous journey to regain his humanity (it's not clear if the upcoming game's ending will be faithful to the source material, as Gregor's odyssey doesn't end well in the original novella).

At its core, Metamorphosis is a first-person puzzle game with pretty surrealistic visuals. Considering that the world around the unlikely hero is truly enormous, it sounds like the title will be a reasonable alternative to the long-awaited Grounded (although Obsidian's game will be much more focused on survival mechanics).

Metamorphosis still doesn't have a release date, but All in! Games has already released a limited-time demo for the project, allowing PC players to "make full use of your tiny body and sticky limbs to make your way through the challenging environment a bug faces everyday, looking for clues, climbing walls, and solving puzzles." You have four days to play the demo, as it will no longer be available after June 22.

Without further ado, take a look at developer Ovid Games' take on Kafka's The Metamorphosis down below:

Metamorphosis is a first person adventure set in a surrealist world where your newfound abilities are your last and only hope for redemption. Play as Gregor, turned into a tiny bug, and set out on an extraordinary journey to unravel the mystery of your transformation.

Metamorphosis is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam) in 2020.
