Square Enix Details Next-Gen Future of MARVEL'S AVENGERS, Including Free PS5 and XSX Upgrades
Although a never-before-seen gameplay trailer for Marvel's Avengers will make its debut tomorrow, Square Enix has already revealed some new details on the highly anticipated title starring Marvel's greatest heroes.
Most importantly, the Japanese publisher has officially confirmed that Marvel's Avengers is a cross-gen title, which means that it's coming not only to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC (on September 4), but also PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X — with the game's next-gen version launching this holiday season.
According to Square Enix, the title's PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X editions will be free for existing players, featuring a free upgrade on Xbox Series X for Xbox One owners and PlayStation 5 for PlayStation 4 owners.
"PS5 greatly lifts the performance and graphics bar for consoles," Crystal Dynamics Chief Technology Officer Gary Snethen said. "The new GPU allows us to increase our texture resolution, push a higher level of detail farther from the player, enhance our ambient occlusion, improve our anisotropic filtering and add a variety of new graphics features such as stochastic screen-space reflections with contact-aware sharpening." While playing, gamers will have a chance to choose between two graphics modes: one prioritising frame rate (60 FPS with dynamic 4K resolution), and one focused on image quality.
With Marvel's Avengers finally stepping into the spotlight tomorrow (at 10AM PDT), be sure to take a closer look at some action-packed screenshots for Crystal Dynamics' long-awaited next big thing down below:
Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Marvel's Avengers will release for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Google Stadia on September 4, 2020; coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season.
