HITMAN 3 Developers Discuss Changing Old Formula and Designing Agent 47's Most Important Assignment

IO Interactive's recently announced sequel to Hitman 2 is shaping up to be one of the promising games of 2021, as the Danish developer — and for the first time, publisher — has finally shone a light on Hitman 3.
According to IO, the title pushes PS4 and XBO to their limits, allowing fans to manipulate the environment in ways that give them more freedom to kill their targets without anyone noticing Agent 47's presence. What's even better, the studio's improved crowd simulation reportedly puts both Hitman and Hitman 2 to shame.
"We are taking the beautiful locations, the level design, these awesome environments that we have and invite players to explore, to be creative, and do things that they haven't done before in a Hitman game. And we're twisting the formula along the way," Hitman 3 Game Director Mattias Engström said.
"I think what our players will like the most is going into this game, and not knowing what to expect. And then really seeing how the game takes them on a dark journey that is intimate and emotional, with some hope sprinkled in," Engström explained in the first entry in the team's all-new dev diary series.
There's no denying that IO is one ambitious studio, and with this generation of consoles coming to an end, chances are that Hitman 3 will be an amazing swan song for Agent 47, and maybe even the best Hitman game yet. Hitman 3 is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in January 2021.
