RESIDENT EVIL VILLAGE Producers Reveal Why Capcom's Horror Isn't Titled RESIDENT EVIL VIII
Although Resident Evil Village is marketed as "the eighth major entry in the series," the recently revealed game is a non-numbered title, raising questions about the game's contributions to the lore of the franchise.
In a recent issue of Weekly Famitsu, the game's producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Peter Fabiano had a chance to explain why the Resident Evil 7: Biohazard sequel is not titled Resident Evil VIII or Resident Evil VIII: Village.
According to the producers, "you could call the actual Village another character in the game, and we did that because we would like players to understand that." Furthermore, you can abbreviate the first-person game's name however you want, but the team would be "happy if you remembered Village."
Quite interestingly, the producers also revealed that Capcom has been working on its next game for three and a half years, starting shortly after the release of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in January 2017. Speaking of the latest entry in the main RE series, Village will also serve as the conclusion to Ethan Winters' adventures.
Fans of Capcom's best-selling game series should be happy to hear that the Japanese studio is still planning to share some brand-new details on Village later this summer, beginning with next month's issue of Famitsu.
The next generation of survival horror rises in the form of Resident Evil Village, the eighth major entry in the Resident Evil series. With ultra-realistic graphics powered by the RE Engine, fight for survival as danger lurks around every corner. Years after the tragic events of Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Ethan Winters has started over with his wife Mia, finally living in peace and putting the past behind them. However, Chris Redfield, the legendary hero from previous Resident Evil games, suddenly disrupts their life, throwing a devastated Ethan into a new and twisted nightmare in search of answers.
Resident Evil Village is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC (via Steam) in 2021.
