Amazon Game Studios' MMO NEW WORLD Has Been Pushed Back Once Again; Launches Next Spring
Following the unprecedented failure of Amazon's original team-based action shooter Crucible, the American tech giant has decided to postpone the release of New World, Amazon Game Studios' long-delayed MMO.
Although New World was supposed to make its debut on August 25 — and in May before the coronavirus pandemic drastically changed Amazon's plans — the project will now hit stores at some point next Spring.
"We want our players to feel completely immersed in the game, and know that our studio stands for quality and lasting gameplay you can trust — and that means added time to get things where we want them before we fully release," Studio Director Rich Lawrence explained on the game's website. "As a result, we will be changing our launch date - and correspondingly, our final beta test - to spring 2021. We don't make the decision lightly, and we have urgency about getting the game to you as quickly as possible at the best quality -- with some additions that will make the experience even better."
Considering that the launch of Crucible was an unmitigated disaster — with the vast majority of players not even noticing the action-packed game's catastrophically bad debut — the fact that Amazon is willing to fix New World's biggest shortcomings before it finally arrives is definitely good news for all fans of the genre.
As a friendly reminder, Amazon Game Studios' has been working on its take on World of Warcraft for over four years. Quite interestingly, the MMO was revealed in September 2016 alongside Crucible and Breakaway.
