SHADOW WARRIOR 3 Is Heavily Inspired by NINJA SCROLLS and Studio Ghibli's Greatest Hits
During a recent interview with Polish website Polygamia, Lead Gameplay Designer Paweł Kowalewski and Lead Producer Bartłomiej Sawicki revealed plenty of new details on Flying Wild Hog's Shadow Warrior 3.
According to Kowalewski, the Hard Reset developer's next big thing is going back to the franchise's Doom-inspired roots, officially ditching the 2016 sequel's controversial "loot shooter" mechanics, co-op mode, and RPG elements to focus more on the things that made the series' reboot so successful in the first place.
Furthermore, Shadow Warrior 3 is reportedly heavily influenced by various anime movies, including Yoshiaki Kawajiri's Ninja Scroll and Studio Ghibli's award-winning films. Quite interestingly, one of the most original weapons in Lo Wang's arsenal — the deadly frost grenade — was directly inspired by a Ghibli production.
Fans of the series' main protagonist — fallen corporate shogun Lo Wang — and his best frenemy Orochi Zilla should be happy to hear that Shadow Warrior 3 will be a full-blown, character-driven experience that won't force players to explore any procedurally generated locations to advance the action-packed story.

Fallen corporate shogun Lo Wang and his former employer turned nemesis turned sidekick Orochi Zilla embark on an improbable mission to recapture an ancient dragon they unwillingly unleashed from its eternal prison. Armed with a punishing mix of blades and bullets, Lo Wang must traverse uncharted parts of the world to track down the dark beast and push the apocalypse back yet again.
Shadow Warrior 3 is coming to PC (via Steam) in 2021.
