Back in March, Ukrainian developer and publisher GSC Game World announced that more details on the long-awaited STALKER 2 would be released at some point this year — and the studio has kept its promise.
During last week's Xbox Games Showcase, GSC Game World revealed the very first trailer for the next-gen sequel to 2007's STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, putting the spotlight on a totally abandoned, ruined Zone.
The upcoming open-world shooter will have a simultaneous release on PC and Xbox Series X. According to the Kiev-based developer, STALKER 2 is "a console launch exclusive," which is a fancy name for a timed exclusive. It basically means that the title will also arrive on PlayStation 5 a year or two after its initial debut.
Powered by by Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4, the first major STALKER game since 2009's Call of Pripyat will reportedly feature the most immersive and detailed world the team at GSC Game World has even created.
"Using our most advanced technology to date, the Zone has never been this gorgeous. And it’s yours to conquer — or to be lost in forever," PR Specialist at GSC Game World Zakhar Bocharov revealed on the Xbox website. "Both monsters and factions that inhabit the Zone are constantly interacting with each other. The previous S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games introduced A-Life — a living world simulating system. The reimagined version of this system, which we call A-Life 2.0, will control the state of the world and the behavior of characters and mutants, making the Zone [...] alive. Countless events and encounters will happen every moment — even if you are not around to witness them with your own eyes."
Unfortunately, the fact that the title's 2021 release window has disappeared from its website suggests that the sequel won't hit stores next year as originally planned. While we're waiting for new information about the long-awaited FPS, take a look at its intense announcement trailer, key art, and screenshots down below:
