Microids Announces ASTERIX & OBELIX XXL ROMASTERED; 3D Platformer Is Coming This October

2003's Asterix and Obelix XXL will make a return, as publisher Microids has confirmed that Asterix and Obelix XXL Romastered is in the works at OSome Studio, the makers of Asterix & Obelix XXL 3: The Crystal Menhir.

That's right, the French company is developing its third remaster of an Asterix and Obelix video game — and what's even better, the reimagined 3D platformer will make its debut relatively soon, on October 22, 2020. Asterix and Obelix XXL Romastered will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

In the game, the heroes "come back to their village after a great day hunting boars only to find their village in flames and their friends missing. [...] Romans have striked again! Our two heroes and their dog Idefix set off on their journey to find the [...] villagers held as prisoners all around the world."

According to Microids, Asterix and Obelix XXL Romastered will feature cutting-edge graphics — including an option to switch between the 2003 game and remastered visuals — brand-new game mechanics, improved camera and animations, and also the original audio and voices (including Roger Carel and Pierre Tornade).

It's worth remembering that the upcoming remaster is not the only new version of an older project that will be published by Microids in 2020, as the remake of XIII will arrive on PS4, XBO, NS, and PC on November 10.
