Netflix Is Developing Six-Part Live-Action THE WITCHER Spin-Off Series Titled BLOOD ORIGIN

It turns out that the second season of The Witcher TV series and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf anime are not the only projects set in the Andrzej Sapkowski–created world Netflix is currently working on.

Actually, Netflix recently announced its second live-action show based on the best-selling book series, titled The Witcher: Blood Origin. The newly announced six-part TV series will serve as a prequel to the main show, putting the spotlight on the story of the first Witcher that took place 1200 years before Geralt's adventures.

The Witcher: Blood Origin will be produced by the team responsible for last year's streaming hit, including Showrunner Declan de Barra, Executive Producers Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, Hivemind's Jason Brown and Sean Daniel, Platige Image's Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko, and finally Sapkowski who will serve as a creative consultant on the drama. The new show is set to shoot in the UK and doesn't have a release date.

"As a lifelong fan of fantasy, I am beyond excited to tell the story The Witcher: Blood Origin," de Barra said. "A question has been burning in my mind ever since I first read The Witcher books - What was the Elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of the humans? I've always been fascinated by the rise and fall of civilizations, how science, discovery, and culture flourish right before that fall. How vast swathes of knowledge are lost forever in such a short time, often compounded by colonization and a rewriting of history. Leaving only fragments of a civilization’s true story behind."

"It is exciting that the world of Witcher — as planned in the very beginning — is expanding," the renowned Polish writer and producer added. "I hope it will bring more fans to the world of my books."

Quite interestingly, the spin-off will be focused on the Elven civilisation before its fall. Considering that The Witcher S2 will make its debut next year, there's a chance that The Witcher: Blood Origin will arrive in 2022.
