Brand-New SOCOM Game Might Be Announced This Thursday as PlayStation 5 Launch Title – DEBUNKED
Take it with a grain of salt, but there's a small chance that Sony will officially announce a brand-new SOCOM during Thursday's State of Play digital show — and said game could very well be a PlayStation 5 launch title.
According to a 4Chan user, the next entry in Sony's most famous squad-based tactical shooter series will be revealed at the fast-approaching event. Although we usually avoid covering rumours and unofficial reports like the plague, the fact that the same person correctly predicted that Sony would announce a new State of Play this week — and confirm one of "the major third party deals that Sony has secured" (Spider-Man as a PS-exclusive hero in the Marvel's Avengers title) — suggests that the user indeed has some inside info.
According to the insider, the SOCOM game will be a PS5 launch title, which means that it will make its debut this holiday season. As a reminder, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will also be ready for PS5's release.
In his post, the leaker described the title as "a big multiplayer game," so it sounds like Sony is not planning to repeat its mistake from 2013 and will release a big online-focused game at the very beginning of its next console's life cycle. It's worth remembering that Zipper Interactive — studio behind the franchise — closed its doors a year after the launch of the last big-budget entry in the series, 2011's SOCOM 4 U.S. Navy SEALs.
Considering that the aforementioned State of Play presentation is now less than 48 hours away, we won't have to wait much longer to verify the recent revelations about the future of the fan-favourite game series.
UPDATE #1 – The State of Play digital event has some to an end and SOCOM still remains a dead franchise.
