Focus Home Interactive has announced a fresh sci-fi beat ‘em up — titled Aeon Must Die — and everything would be great if not for the fact that its creators were forced to leave their studio shortly before its reveal.
According to former members of the Limestone Games team, several key employees recently left the Tallinn-based company — including the game's creative director — due to "unbearable work conditions with endless crunch, harassment, abuse, corruption, and manipulation." Apparently, the game was "stolen and made through unpaid crunch" — and the French publisher has not addressed the accusations yet.
When it comes to the actual game, Aeon Must Die is a visually stunning beat' em up (think Streets of Rage 4 meets DAEMON X MACHINA) that will arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC next year.
In the newly announced — and immensely troubled — production, you take on the role of the new host for Aeon, "the symbiotic and recently overthrown emperor of the universe. After wrestling for control over your body, you and Aeon must go on a violent journey across the stars; you must save the last of your species, while Aeon seeks revenge," Creative Producer Miguel Rey Garcia revealed. "It’s a pastiche of classic films like Road Warrior, Yojimbo, with more modern influences like Gurren Lagann."
Although this whole situation is rather terrible, take a closer look at Limestone's debut project down below:
