Remedy Announces CONTROL ULTIMATE EDITION and Players Aren't Too Happy About It

Remedy Entertainment and 505 Games have some bittersweet news for fans of Control, as those who would like to get a free next-gen version of the project will need to purchase Control Ultimate Edition beforehand.

You read that right, players who have already bought a copy of 2019's hit will not be able to upgrade their game to the recently revealed next-gen version at no additional cost. Taking into account that both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will support backwards compatibility, the anti-consumer decision is simply bizarre.

Priced at $39.99, the newly announced Control Ultimate Edition will contain the base game, its two major expansions — The Foundation and AWEThe Expeditions, Photo Mode, and all of the content updates since the release of the original game. Control Ultimate Edition will arrive on Steam on August 27, the Epic Game Store, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 10 (digitally), and later this year on PS5 and XSX.

Fans of Control who would like to learn more about its last story DLC — the aforementioned AWE, starring Alan Wake himself — should keep an eye on Remedy's Twitch channel, as the award-winning Finnish team will showcase the first 15 minutes of the new content drop — releasing August 27 — tomorrow at 9AM PDT.

To learn more about Control Ultimate Edition, take a closer look at its explosive reveal trailer down below:

Control: You are Jesse Faden, a young woman with a troubled past. You become the new Director of the Bureau of Control – Our frontline in researching and fighting against supernatural enemies like the Hiss threatening our very existence. You’ll uncover the secret activities of the Bureau agents and explore the strange and shifting halls of the Bureau’s headquarters, The Oldest House. Unlock new abilities with Objects of Power and upgrade your Service Weapon to take on bigger and more powerful enemies.

Control is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (via the EGS); coming to Steam on August 27, will arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X at a later date.
