Captain Marvel, War Machine, Kate Bishop, and She-Hulk Will Reportedly Join MARVEL'S AVENGERS Roster
Although Square Enix has confirmed only two post-launch heroes for Marvel's Avengers so far — Hawkeye and Spider-Man (exclusive to PlayStation) — it looks like its roster will grow exponentially in the near future.
A dataminer named 6plus4equals52 may have spoiled some of the Japanese publisher's big surprises, as he discovered earlier today that Captain Marvel, War Machine, She-Hulk, Kate Bishop, and Spider-Man (Peter Parker) are all described as playable characters in the ongoing beta's files (in its update 1.03, to be exact).
Considering that War Machine is basically a heavier version of Iron Man (at least in the comics), She-Hulk — a less powerful cousin of The Hulk, and Kate Bishop — a more agile friend of Clint Barton, Crystal Dynamics probably wouldn't break a sweat designing the already existing characters'
reskinned brand-new iterations.
The only aforementioned hero that would definitely require more development time is Carol Danvers, whose young friend, Kamala Khan (aka Ms. Marvel) is the fast-approaching game's main protagonist — but it's safe to say that balancing her powers would be less complicated than, let's say, Doctor Strange or Scarlet Witch's.
According to 6plus4equals52, a mysterious duo — Frostbite and Rico — will also make an appearance in the game, but it's not clear who they actually are yet. Rumour has it that Black Panther will also join the action-packed fun, but Square Enix had not officially announced him as a DLC character at the time of this writing.
Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Marvel's Avengers will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia on September 4, 2020; coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season.
