RATCHET & CLANK: RIFT APART Shines in Colourful Gameplay Footage; Title Targets PS5 Launch Window
As promised, Sony has released an extended version of the reveal trailer for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, allowing us to take a closer look at its cutting-edge features and vibrant world without any loading screens.
To accompany the action-packed footage, Insomniac Games has shared some new details about their next-gen 3D platformer. First of all, the Burbank-based studio has confirmed that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be released during the PlayStation 5's launch window, which means that the game will hit stores at some point between the beginning of November and end of December. It's worth remembering that Insomniac's second big project — Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales — will actually be a PlayStation 5 launch title.
Furthermore, Insomniac has confirmed that the title will feature two resolution modes for players to choose from — one allowing them to enjoy 4K at 30FPS, with the other one offering "lower resolution at 60 FPS."
Quite surprisingly, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart won't be a direct sequel to 2013's PlayStation 3-exclusive Into the Nexus, so even those who have never played a Ratchet & Clank game before should be able to enjoy the next entry in the long-running game series — kicked off with the acclaimed 2002 original — to the fullest.
"[Previously], we were trying to tell this story that revolved around, you know, strengthening these two heroes, who are basically diametrically opposed. They don't see eye to eye on anything, but they're better together," Creative Director Marcus Smith (Sunset Overdrive, Marvel's Spider-Man) told GamesRadar. "And we really wanted to make sure that we had a message about that – that these are [...] tumultuous times, and people need to have more empathy, and see past each other's differences to make sure that we're made stronger together, right? It's the overarching message of the franchise."
Considering that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will make its debut at some point in 2020 (or early next year), we will definitely learn a whole lot more about Insomniac's next major project in the near future. In the meantime, be sure to take a look at the newly released gameplay footage from the game down below:
Ratchet and Clank find themselves at odds with their archnemesis, Dr. Nefarious. Only this time, he’s equipped with the dangerous Dimensionator, a device with the power to travel to other dimensions. The duo fights their way through an army of hired Goons in Megalopolis until something happens and they are ripped apart. Where are they now?
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is coming to PlayStation 5 later this year.
