An army of angry zombie flowers falling from the sky, a brave hero with psychic abilities, fast-paced combat mechanics, shadowy organisations, and a bunch of giant ibexes — Bandai Namco's Scarlet Nexus has it all.
At this year's gamescom, the Japanese publisher released some never-before-seen gameplay footage for their gravity-defying cross-gen adventure, focusing on the villainous — and also brain-eating — Others, our main protagonist — named Yuito Sumeragi — and its zombiefied — yet extremely vibrant — universe.
During a recent interview with Gematsu's Sal Romano, Producer Keita Iizuka had a chance to discuss the origins of the game's unique title. "Scarlet Nexus is made up of two concepts, where ‘Scarlet’ means ‘red’ and ‘Nexus’ means ‘connection,’" he said. "The visual expression of ‘objects or persons connected with red lines represents a big part in the visuals and key art of Scarlet Nexus. Moreover, there is also an important meaning in the title itself. When the player borrows power from his teammates, you will see red tubes stabbed into the character’s back. This is one of the main characteristics of the game."
Considering that Iizuka's most recent release — 2019's Code Vein — was well-received by fans, chances are that his next colourful adventure will also do a great job filling the void left by Square Enix's Parasite Eve.
Without further ado, take a closer look at the action-packed Scarlet Nexus gameplay footage down below:
In a far distant future, a psionic hormone was discovered in the human brain, granting people extra-sensory powersand changing the world as we know it. Just as humanity was entering this new era, deranged mutants known as Others began to descend from the sky with a thirst for human brains. Highly resistant to conventional attack methods, extreme measures needed to be taken to battle the overwhelming threat and preserve humanity. Those with acute extra-sensory abilities, known as psionics, were our chance to fight the onslaught from above. To this day, psionics have been scouted for their talents and recruited to the Other Suppression Force (OSF), humanity’s last line of defense.
Scarlet Nexus is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
