GOTHAM KNIGHTS: WB Reveals New Details On Deadly Court of Owls and Level Scaling System
During a recent interview with the PlayStation Blog, Creative Director Patrick Redding revealed some fresh details about the Batman-less universe of WB Games Montreal's Gotham Knights and its game mechanics.
In Gotham Knights, "The Bat is dead." Killed by a shady organisation, Bruce Wayne leaves Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin one last message, asking the new generation of heroes to take care of his home town.
After suiting up in the Belfry — their secret (and cutting-edge) headquarters — the brave quartet will try to continue the legacy of Batman — and each hero will possess a different set of abilities and overall "vibe." For example, Jason Todd won't shy away from using brute force to deal with his enemies, Nightwing turns every fist fight into a bloody spectacle, while Tim Drake favours stealth and disrupting criminals from the shadows. When it comes to Barbara Gordon, she reportedly combines a laser-focused, "targeted and efficient melee fighter approach with a lot of resilience and the ability to weaponize her environment using hacking."
Following in the footsteps of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, even street-level goon will level up alongside your characters — who will have four separate XP progression systems. "We wanted to make sure that every encounter, no matter where it is, provides those kinds of choices," Redding added. You read that right, WB Games Montreal's cross-gen production will have an Assassin's Creed Odyssey–like level scaling system.
The creative director also shared some additional information about the villainous Court of Owls. Rooted in the foundations of Gotham, the ruthless group's "wealth and corruption and entrenched power twisted the city into its current form," forcing the young team to rethink the way they look at the dark, rainy city.
Obviously, the shady secret society won't be the only big obstacle the vigilantes will encounter during their action-packed journey, as they will also have a chance to duke it out with Mr. Freeze and other major villains.
Batman is dead. It is now up to the Batman Family - Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin - to protect Gotham City, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops, and fear to its criminals. You must evolve into the new Dark Knight and save Gotham from chaos.
Gotham Knights is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2021.
