Ubisoft has officially revealed the long-rumoured Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time Remake and confirmed that the next major entry in the fan-favourite series will make its debut relatively soon, on January 21, 2021.
During yesterday's Ubisoft Forward digital show, the French company announced that Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time Remake is being created by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, two studios in India that have never led such a giant production before. Although said teams are less experienced than other Ubisoft studios, it sounds like the award-winning brand is in very good hands. "Last week, I played a recent build," Jordan Mechner, the original creator of Prince of Persia, said. "It gave me tingles. I was relieved to discover that my gameplay reflexes and level-map memories of 15 years ago are still valid, letting me fluidly navigate a newly-rendered game world that's lush [...] and immersive in ways the Montreal team and I could only dream of in 2003." Mechner also serves as a creative consultant on the new remake.
Fans of the series should be happy to hear that Yuri Lowenthal (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Marvel's Spider-Man) will return to play the titular hero, with Supinder Wraich (Guidestones, The Expanse) portraying Farah, his only ally in the monster-infested world. Both characters are brought to life using motion capture.
According to Ubisoft, Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time Remake will initially release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (via the EGS and Uplay), and will be playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X via backwards compatibility. Rumour has it that the game's Switch port is also in the works and will launch at a later date.
There's no denying that Ubisoft's release schedule is pretty packed, as the publisher is planning to release Watch Dogs Legion on October 29, Assassin's Creed Valhalla on November 10, Immortals Fenyx Rising on December 3, Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time Remake on January 21, and Far Cry 6 on February 18.
Considering that the remake of 2003's Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time will hit stores early next year, we will definitely learn a whole lot more about the biggest differences between the beloved original and its re-imagining in the near future. In the meantime, take a closer look at its reveal trailer and all-new screenshots:
