RESIDENT EVIL VILLAGE Will Give You More Freedom Than Its Predecessor; Horror May Come to PS4 & XBO

Capcom has shared a never-before-seen trailer for Resident Evil: Village, allowing us to take a closer look at the Japanese game developer's original (and also pule-pounding) take on Slavic folklore and mythology.

The newly released video does a pretty good job spotlighting the biggest differences between RE: Village and its critically acclaimed predecessor, focusing mostly on the improved lighting and its unique way of telling the story. In RE: Village, the most important events will be explained in the Village of Shadows book.

RE7: Biohazard may have been a generally linear experience, but its long-awaited sequel will reportedly give you more freedom, allowing you to experiment with its gameplay mechanics and tackle objectives your way.

Although nothing is set in stone as of yet, there's a tiny chance that the eight numbered entry in Capcom's award-winning horror series will also be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. According to Producer Tsuyoshi Kanda, the development team has been actively trying to make RE: Village run on the current-gen consoles, so whether the Osaka-based publisher decides to actually produce said ports is still up in the air.

Sadly, it will be a while before we learn more about RE: Village, as Capcom won't reveal any fresh details on their next game until this winter. In the meantime, take a look at two new character descriptions for the title:

Ethan Winters:

The protagonist of RE7: Biohazard, Ethan's story continues in RE: Village. After being swept up into the events of the Baker estate incident, this regular nobody somehow managed to escape that nightmare alive. Ever since, he has lived a quiet existence with his wife Mia under the protection of the BSAA.

Chris Redfield:

A mainstay of the series since the first RE, this former S.T.A.R.S. member has fought his way through numerous bioterror incidents. He currently works as a specialist for the BSAA, a counter-bioterror NGO.

The next generation of survival horror rises in the form of Resident Evil Village, the eighth major entry in the Resident Evil series. With ultra-realistic graphics powered by the RE Engine, fight for survival as danger lurks around every corner. Years after the tragic events of Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Ethan Winters has started over with his wife Mia, finally living in peace and putting the past behind them. However, Chris Redfield, the legendary hero from previous Resident Evil games, suddenly disrupts their life, throwing a devastated Ethan into a new and twisted nightmare in search of answers.

Resident Evil Village is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC (via Steam) in 2021.
