New Female Protagonist Faces Hostile Aliens in Fresh Screenshots for PS5-Exclusive RETURNAL

Housemarque's Returnal probably isn't the most anticipated PlayStation 5–exclusive video game out there, but it doesn't mean that you shouldn't keep an eye on the Matterfall team's third-person roguelike shooter.

To make the long wait for Returnal less painful, the team at Sony has shared a bunch of immensely beautiful screenshots, putting the spotlight on our main protagonist's uneven fight against an always-changing alien planet. In the game, you will assume the role of Selene and try to piece together fragments of her memories.

According to the publisher, the procedural world of Returnal is designed for "extreme replayability," inviting you to "dust yourself off in the face of defeat and take on new [...] challenges with every rebirth."

Rumour has it that Housemarque's next major production will arrive on PlayStation 5 sometime in 2021, but the award-winning creators of Outland have not revealed any concrete details about its release date just yet.

Without further ado, take a look at the never-before-seen screenshots for the next-gen project down below:

Returnal combines action with roguelike gameplay into a third-person shooter where players fight to survive a hostile planet that changes with every death. Players can switch instinctively between firing modes by using a single adaptive trigger and can get right back into the action after dying.

Returnal is coming to PlayStation 5.
