Story-Driven METRO 4 Is in the Works; METRO EXODUS Is Heading to PS5 and Xbox Series S/X

Matro 2033 was released exactly 10 years ago, and to celebrate the original video game's big anniversary, 4A Games has shared their plans for the future of the beloved game series based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's work.

First of all, the studio has announced that Metro: Exodus will get a proper next-gen upgrade. The first-person shooter will be arriving on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X next year with "faster frame rate, increased resolution, reduced loading times and stunning ray-traced features." Existing owners will get it at no additional cost.

When it comes to the long-rumoured sequel to Metro: Exodus, 4A has also confirmed that said project is real and is being developed with PS5, Xbox Series and PC in mind. Fans of the award-winning trilogy should be happy to hear that the sequel will still be a story-driven, single-player experience. Although we know literally nothing about the project, the team is doing their best to make it "bigger and better" than its predecessor.

To bring this ambitious vision to life, the Ukrainian video game developer has completely overhauled their proprietary 4A Engine, which now fully supports real-time ray tracing and other next-gen graphical features.

That's not all, as 4A Games has teamed-up with Saber Interactive — the studio responsible for World War Z and Crysis Remastered that also happens to be a subsidiary of Embracer Group — to create a new, original multiplayer game set in the Metro world. Sadly, the online project is in the very early stages of development.

On top of that, 4A is making at least one new (and probably smaller) title that has nothing to do with Metro.
