LOVECRAFT COUNTRY Creator Misha Green Replaces Ben Wheatley as Director of TOMB RAIDER Sequel

The Tomb Raider sequel has found a new director, Misha Green — the showrunner and executive producer of HBO's Lovecraft Country — who will also write the long-awaited follow-up to the 2018 video game movie.

That's right, Green will replace both director Ben Wheatley (Rebecca, Sightseers) and writer Amy Jump (High-Rise, A Field in England), as she will oversee the production of Tomb Raider 2 and pen its script all by herself.

Said decision shouldn't come as any sort of surprise, as Wheatley is currently busy directing The Meg 2, a recently announced sequel to one of the highest-grossing movies about deadly sharks in recent history — and yes, Jason Statham will return to beat the sh*t out of all kinds of vicious sea fish in the upcoming flick.

When it comes to an official release date for Tomb Raider 2, it's still a big unknown — and we don't even know when the movie starts shooting. It was supposed to be filmed early this year, but the pandemic has seemingly forced Warner Bros to make some big adjustments to their already busy production schedule.

Although specific story details are being kept under wraps, both Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) and Daniel Wu (Warcraft, Into the Badlands) are expected to reprise their roles in the second film.
